Dog Boarding in Plano, TX: 7 Questions to Ask Before You Book

Leaving your dog overnight is a trust decision. Plano has plenty of boarding options, and the websites all say "safe" and "loving." The differences show up when you ask specific questions. Here are the seven we'd want answered before booking anywhere — including here.

1. Is anyone on-site overnight?

Some facilities lock up at closing and come back in the morning. Ask directly. At Paws Up, we have 24-hr staff on-site, and senior and special-needs dogs are housed beside the staff lounge so they're monitored overnight.

2. Where does my dog actually sleep?

Shared runs and stacked crates are common. Ask to see the sleeping area, not just the lobby. Our guests sleep in private, climate-controlled suites with fresh water and comfortable bedding.

3. What does a normal day look like?

Ask for the schedule, not the brochure. Ours: morning potty break and breakfast, outside time and enrichment through the day, midday rest, more outside time and individual attention in the afternoon, dinner and one-on-one time in the evening. VIP guests add a daily trainer-led playgroup or indoor dog park session, cuddle time, daily photos, a treat and a bath before pickup.

4. What's the total price — including fees?

This is where surprises live: exit-bath fees, evaluation fees, intact-dog fees, "premium" pickup windows. Ask for the all-in number. Paws Up boarding is $55/night (20% off each additional dog from the same family), VIP is $89/night. The only extra charge we have is $10/night on major holidays. That's it — no surprise fees.

5. Can you give my dog's medications?

Many places charge per dose. We administer oral meds, eye and ear drops and prescription diets at no extra charge (we don't give injections). Seniors and special-needs dogs stay at the standard $55 rate.

6. Do you accept intact dogs?

A lot of Plano facilities require spay/neuter. We welcome intact males, females and puppies at no extra charge — including females in heat, with no additional fee. Girls in heat skip playgroup until 21 days after the cycle starts and get extra potty breaks and one-on-one time instead. Details on our Intact Dogs page.

7. How will I hear from you?

Ask how often you'll get updates and whether you can call. Standard guests get photos three times a week, VIP guests daily, and you're always welcome to call.
